Medical Acupuncture

Medical Acupuncture, also known as Neurofunctional Acupuncture, involves the use of fine point solid needles inserted into anatomically defined points on the body. This targeted approach is designed to engage specific structures such as muscles, nerves, and connective tissues, promoting natural healing.

Acupuncture works primarily through two process.  The first is enhanced blood circulation through vasodilation of local blood vessels which aids in tissue repair and promotes a healthier tissue environment.

The second effect is important for pain as needling promotes neuromodulation of the nervous system which can reduce pain and improve function in the affected areas. Additionally, it can help balance the body's response to pain and stress, improving sleep and promoting a more relaxed nervous system.

These effects can be enhanced with the addition of electrical impulses in a technique called electro-acupuncture all with the goal of improved health and performance.

Acupuncture techniques are designed to be painless, with needle insertion typically causing little to no sensation. However, to achieve maximum effectiveness, the needle may be inserted deeper to target the specific tissue or area involved. At this point, a temporary sensation of aching, squeezing, or cramping may be felt, lasting anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. This sensation is normal and part of the healing process.
